An important component of the day care centre is the primary health care service. Two days a week a community nurse, funded by the H.S.E., is available to members of the public at Cumann Iosaef. Client’s needs are catered for in a dignified, respectful and confidential manner. Blood/sugar readings, blood pressure levels and weight measurements are logged and charted each week. Medical dressings are changed and physical health is monitored. A shower room is available in the centre for use by the nurse, and assistance is given to clients with showering and changing. Interaction with the nurse has a socialisation aspect and the trust that has evolved with the clients has a very positive effect on the health status of the service users.
Part of the service for older people includes mental stimulation work, and the health care provider facilitates various activities to this end.
